Getting here and parking

What is the best way for me to get to Gmünd?

The artists‘ town of Gmünd is conveniently located for transport links, at the A10 Tauern motorway – Gmünd exit. The journey from Spittal-Millstätter See train station is around 20 minutes by taxi or bus.

Parking at Gasthof Prunner

To enjoy a smooth journey here, we recommend that you park right outside Gasthof Prunner initially, or at the public short-stay parking areas in Gmünd. The parking zones – on the main square for instance – are signposted in blue and provide free parking at the following times when you have a parking disc:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00 – 18:00
  • Saturday: 8:00 – 12:00
  • The maximum stay is 90 minutes. Motorbikes are excluded from this directive.
  • Unlimited overnight parking is available on the main square (outside short-stay parking hours), as long as the car park area is available.

After that, you can relax and head to check-in. If you are arriving outside of the official parking period, or a parking meter is not on hand, we are happy to provide you with an information notice which you can place in a clearly visible position behind your windscreen.

After you unload your luggage, park your vehicle in our free private car park at  ‘Appartementhaus Prunner’ for the duration of your stay, the address is: Pongratzen Vorstadt 16 / 16/3, 9853 Gmünd in Carinthia – and is around a 5-minute walk from the Gasthof.

Unfortunately, long-term parking is not available directly at Gasthof Prunner. We are here to help at any time if you have any queries.

Stay and facilities

Is there a lift in the building?

No, our traditional building does not have a lift. Our rooms are located on the first and second floors, with more stairs to negotiate to access the maisonettes. If you have difficulty climbing stairs, please let us know  and we will be happy to provide you with a room on the first floor.

Is there a safe place to store my bike?

Yes of course. The inner courtyard has a safe area where you can store your bike. Those of you who are travelling without your own bike can use our free city bikes and head out on a spin.

Is the water in your rooms of drinking water standard?

Yes, the water in our rooms is of the best quality and you can enjoy a drink directly from the tap, without hesitation.

Restaurant and meals

When is the restaurant open?

Our Slow Food Restaurant is open every day – with one small exception: Tuesday is a day off. The kitchen is open from 11:30 – 14:00 and from 17:30 – 20:00. We can recommend a lovely restaurant nearby for you to head to on the day we are closed.

Is breakfast included in the room price?

Yes, our extensive breakfast is included in the price. Look forward to regional produce, delicious home-made food and to a little surprise at your table every day. Take a seat – the breakfast table has an abundance of options available.

Can I dine in Gasthof Prunner at lunch time and in the evening too?

Of course – we would be delighted if you would like to gather at lunch time, or to enjoy a wonderful evening meal in our Slow Food Restaurant. Just let us know in advance when you would like to enjoy a meal and we will reserve a table for you. Then relax and choose the dishes you would like to sample from our à la cart menu.

Our kitchen is open from 11:30 – 14:00 and 17:30 – 20:00; closing time is 22:00 and we are not open on a Tuesday – we are happy to provide you with details about the restaurants in town that we recommend.

Services and inclusive services

What services are included in a stay?

Along with breakfast, Wi-Fi and free parking, there are lots of nice little features for you to enjoy – from the cosy reading nook on the first and second floors which provide daily newspapers and books, to our stylish bar and lounge, to the tranquil loungers at ‘Appartementhaus Prunner’. Explore the region free of charge and in a sustainable way with the Mobility Card. We are happy to provide you with all the details when you check-in.

Will I receive a Mobility Card?

Yes, you will get your own Mobility Card from us when you check-in. With it you can use buses in the region free of charge – for instance, why not head out on excursions into Malta Valley, to Kölnbrein Dam (please note that a road toll is payable per person) or to the Katschberg. We are happy to help you plan short sightseeing tours.

Important information about mobility in the town:

As of 14.12.2025, all regional buses have been operating from Gmünd bus terminal (at the pizzeria). It takes around three minutes to walk there from Gasthof Prunner. Only the buses heading for Malta stop right at the main square.

Are there charging stations for E-cars in the vicinity?

Yes. Around three kilometres outside Gmünd on the A10 Tauern motorway there is an IONITY charging station at Eisentratten (Eisentratten/Laggen motorway rest area). There is also a public E-charging station in the town of Gmünd, about a five-minute walk from Gasthof Prunner. We are happy to provide you with information about exact locations when you get here.

What does it mean when a siren goes off?

For the most part in Gmünd the sirens only resound as a test on Saturdays around lunch time. In an emergency, they are used to alert the local emergency services, but do not automatically mean that our building is unsafe. So be attentive, but don’t worry. For your own safety, we recommend that you familiarise yourself with escape routes upon arrival.

Shopping and day-to-day needs

Do you offer a laundry service?

Unfortunately, we do not offer an in-house laundry service. We are however happy to recommend FLORIAN Textilklinik GmbH, Waschanger 49, 9853 Gmünd, Tel. +43 676 41 85 958. Opening times: Monday to Friday 07:00 – 17:00, closed Saturday and Sunday and as stated on the website.

What shops are there in Gmünd?

On the main square you will find Tourist Information (KärntenCard), bakeries, a pharmacy, banks, an ADEG supermarket along with many other shops, selling clothes and shoes through to souvenirs, flowers and jewellery. There are also cafés and restaurants where you can while away the time.

Are there any other shops?

In Untere Vorstadt, which is about a five-minute walk from our Gasthof, there is a SPAR and a BILLA supermarket. These shops are also open on Sundays during the summer season.

Are there any hairdressers nearby?

Yes, there are hairdressers in Gmünd – we can provide our latest recommendations when you get here.

Pets

Are dogs permitted?

Yes, on request, dogs are permitted in selected rooms. We charge € 15 per night and request a valid liability insurance to provide cover for any potential damage.

Booking and cancellation

When can I arrive and when do I need to depart?
  • Arrival: 14:00 – 22:00
  • Departure: by 11:00

Should your arrival be delayed, please give us a quick call on +43 4732 2187 to let us know. If you would like to enjoy the day, even after check-out, we are happy to securely store your luggage for you.

What payment types are accepted?

You can pay in cash, by credit card or debit card.

What are the cancellation terms?

General terms and conditions for the hotel sector apply (AGBH). For bookings made via Booking.com, the respective cancellation guidelines set out there apply.

For the most part, direct bookings made via our website, cancellation is free up to seven days before you are due to arrive. After that we reserve the right to charge cancellation fees, as per general terms and conditions for the hotel sector (AGBH).

Since unforeseen events sometimes still occur, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation cover, which means you will be covered in the event of any incident.
